Are H.264 Codecs Better for Watching Funny Videos on Your Smartphone?

Many people use their smartphone for watching funny video clips. It seems that the H.264 video format is the main format that is suitable for watching these videos on a smartphone.

For instance, Apple has long claimed that they will not make their mobile products Flash compatible because Flash drains the battery life too much. Instead the company has backed the H.264 Codecs, which has led to an increase in the popularity of this codec over Flash. For example, YouTube has converted its entire library to H.264 for playback on iOS devices. So with a lot on the line, it is good that a popular IT site took it upon themselves to actually test Apple's assertion that Flash drains more battery life.

They created two video files of the same movies and played them back using different apps on both an iPod Touch and a Samsung Galaxy Tab. The results actually backed up Apple's case, as their video app was more frugal with the power and the difference in battery life was notable on the Galaxy Tab with the Flash codec draining battery faster then the H.264.
